i went veggie for years when i was a lad after the whole BSE thing and it damaged me badly, im sure i was doing it very wrong with pizzas and crap but still as a carnivore now im getting so much better every day, i have plenty more things on the topic to post!
When I lived in rural Spain we had a village abattoir run by a woman in her 40s. I used to have to walk past there on my way to the shops. I never heard a single cry from an animal and I knew she worked every day. Each finca or small farm would take their animals to her with the certainty that they were going to be well treated, no fear, no stress. These animals would eventually arrive at the local butchers, run by 2 women in their 40s. The quality and tenderness of the meat was outstanding. I mentioned it to the staff and they explained that all their meat came from the local abattoir and the only time meat is tough is when it is loaded with adrenaline from fear.....
And to think, these horrible CAFO's where animals are commodities and their lives are living HELL... I can't stand it. I can't STAND it. That alone is enough to drive me to eggs only... I'm usually only willing to eat organic meat, pastured, etc.
I was all excited about a new book I sent for, splurging (thankfully, only) seven bucks to get it, and then when I started to read it, realized the dietary advice was to be "meatless," and lost ALL INTEREST INSTANTLY. Daaaaaaaaaaaaaamn! I mean, maaaaybe I could just live on eggs and cheese and stuff, but NOT VEGAN... My psycho brother is vegan, militantly so, and that right there tells me NO, lol.
i eat mostly duck eggs, ham and cheese, twice a week beef and kidney, once a week wild salmon, sometimes bacon. supplement with freeze dried liver, copper, selenium, zinc, nascent iodine, salt, potassium and magnesium.
Had to nick and publish on GETTR the one about grass fed beef.... just feeling narky against vegans.... as usual. xx

Went veggie for a short while in high school, but gave it up fairly quickly, because Bacon.
I could not live without bacon. I have traditionally always had bacon for breakfast in the winter months. I must have eaten an entire farm by now!
I feel sort of guilty about the critters, but skillfully done, they never need know they're being killed for food... I do love critters.

Sounds like a plan! (And don't ever eat farmed salmon or any other farmed fish.)
Every vegan I have ever known was starving and miserable or angry. I don't get it.... why do they torture themselves? Masochists!
Faves: Plymouth Rock, The Unjabbed Arms, and the punk kitten. ^_^
